Yoga helps the student find balance at any age, calming the mind and relaxing the body. This class helps bring active minds into union with active bodies in a non-competitive environment. Kids will learn new poses in a fun and playful way that stretches and strengthens their imaginations as well as their bodies. Mats are provided. Previous yoga experience is not required. Youth Empowerment Camp - Troy, MO
This annual leadership training camp is a gathering of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, asexual, allied, and intersex (LGBTQQAAI) designed and created by youth activists and allies who are dedicated to defeating homophobia and transphobia and creating brave, supportive schools for everyone. Camp is driven by young people. This year we are renting a huge camp at Cuivre River State Park with Cabins, Dinning Hall, Firepit and even a pool located just a little over an hour from St. Louis, MO next to Troy, MO. Maybe your camper just had SO much fun theyre begging to have one last hurrah (hopefully this is the reason)! Well, weve taken the most popular experiments from all of our 2015 Camps and combined them into one final camp. Session 1H - Voyagers - Camp Butano Creek
This is a two-session program: spend the first session experiencing intensive training activities with your peers. This session includes: discovering your leadership potential; enhancing your skills in group dynamics and communication; understanding the delivery of camp programs and operations; and traditional camp activities including a special outing. Voyagers go home on July 16th to rest up and return on either July 21st (2nd session) or August 4th (3rd session) as an Apprentice Counselor, joining our camp staff during pre-camp for final camp training and preparations. In your assigned unit, put your new knowledge and skills to work as an Apprentice Counselor. Voyager registration is not complete until the following has been completed and returned: camper registration; Voyager application and questionnaire; and three references. Final placement is subject to evaluation by Voyager staff. Spaces are LIMITED, sign up early! Preference will be given to Voyagers entering 12th grade. If there are openings after March 1, those entering 11th grade will be considered. There is so much exploration to be done in the world of childrens literature! Students will be exposed to the wonders of their favorite books and be introduced to newly published stories as well. Girls Field Hockey - Brookwood School
Fall 2016 will be here before we know it and Field Hockey Tune-Up gives the foundation to be ready for the season. Skill development, fitness training, and teamwork are hallmarks of this established program. Basic skills, stick handling, rules, and field positions are taught through drills and game play. Rigorous conditioning, "eating to play," and strategies for rest and recovery are all part of the program; athletes learn to prepare not just for a single season, but for a life of physical activity. Coach Mike Wellington teaches physical education at Brookwood School. He serves as a U.S.A. Field Hockey Level II Certified Northeast Region coach and coaches U16 Premier Field Hockey for Seacoast United. As the Assistant Athletic Director and a beloved varsity field hockey coach for over twenty years, he has helped players from Pre-Kindergarten to Grade Eight find their physical strengths and talents.
