The first Summer Camp Music Festival was held in 2001 at Three Sisters Park in Chillicothe, IL. About 1,000 attended the festival that year, and enjoyed over 20 bands on 2 stages over the course of 2 days. Since then, Summer Camp Music Festival has grown to more than 15,000 attendees, hosting more than 100 bands on 7 stages over 3 days. And while our numbers have grown, Summer Camp still maintains the same energy and family feel we had when we started over a decade ago. As one fan put it, “Coming to Summer Camp is like coming home.” You’ll run into old friends, meet a ton of great new ones, and have the time of your life. Almost tripling the population of Chillicothe for the weekend, Summer Camp creates a city within a city, and greatly impacts the local business economy. These kids hear these things (and far worse than this) from their guardians, parents, and/or other family members. Many also deal with sexual and physical abuse, come from broken homes, and have been neglected or abandoned. Others still have bounced from place to place all their lives and don't know what it is like to have a family, a home, a safe environment, or even to just be a kid. There are children who have taken on the role of a parent to their sibling(s) at a young age (some as early as 4 or 5 years old) because their parent(s)/guardian(s) aren't present either mentally or physically. It is recorded that annually, 3.6 million cases of child abuse, neglect or abandonment are reported in America, and one of these victims dies every six hours...

A CIT will be assigned to a JBRC Staffer and will undergird her work. She will not be allowed to have the full responsibility of the cabin, but will observe, learn and help keep the cabin running smoothly. From Monday night to Thursday night survivor campers spend each night outside. Campers learn the leave no trace philosophy. Survivor campers will go through high adventure courses, swim and canoe and have nightly de-briefing times and devotions. 336-629-4085
