This Spring the Vermont People’s Convention will bring hundreds of people together as a critical step in building a unified movement for healthy communities and a just society. On April 30 & May 1st at Montpelier High School, individuals and organizations working for disability rights, racial justice, immigrant rights, climate justice and labor unions will come together for a weekend to share, learn and take action together. It is estimated that 60% of the terminology college students will face come from words formed from ancient Greek and Latin affixes and root words. Knowing how to break down a word which has been formed from Greek or Latin can help a student not only build a working vocabulary, but also help a student construct a basic meaning for a new or unfamiliar word. Students who learn this skill see their vocabularies grow and their anxiety lessen. As students who enter college are faced with not only increased amounts of reading, but also increased difficulty in those readings, having the skill to navigate these readings, assignments, and exams makes academic success much more easily attainable.
