Sea Perch Robotics - Middle School
This exciting new offering will coordinate with the Webb Institute. Located in Glen Cove, the Webb Institute is a private engineering college, offering a dual major in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering. Participants in the Sea Perch Program will build an underwater robot. The completed the robots will then be brought to Webb Institute for a day of in-water testing and head-to-head competitions that determine how well the robots were constructed and how well the human operators can control their custom-built submersible seacraft. Fun Filled Field Trips - Old Trail School
Fun-filled field trips will be taken each day to enable campers to explore the exciting opportunities available in our community. Each morning will begin with a short educational reading and activity related to the field trip. Lunch will be eaten on the trip and a thematic afternoon snack will be provided. Each location offers campers the opportunity to play and explore. Campers should pack their own lunch. Field trips include: Cleveland Zoo, Great Lakes Science Center, Natural History Museum and Lake Farm Parks. Trips will be arranged according to weather and lunch should be packed in brown paper sacks or plastic bags to allow for easy disposal while on field trips. Nature School- Session 5 - Chico Creek Nature Center
Nature School is a first learning experience in nature. It is a drop off program designed for Pre K, TK and Kindergartners. Young first graders may also enjoy this class. All children should be potty trained and ready for an experience away from their family. Our teachers are happy to help facilitate "goodbyes" as is often needed with this age. Children learn about nature, letters, numbers, colors and shapes through crafts, songs, games, animal visits and guided exploration of the park. The teacher is trained in and uses curriculum from Growing Up Wild that meets state standards in science, literacy, math, art and STEM. Each class has a different theme. For optimum learning a full year of participation is encouraged. Classes are broken into 6 Wednesday sessions. Limited to 16 students with a ratio of 1 teacher to 8 children. The program runs 11am to 2pm. We recommend your family joins us for Natures ABCs that is 10 to 11am to help in the drop off transition. Ever make art out of rodent bones or watch bags of fizzy color explode all over the street? If you are a scientist with an artistic streak, or vice versa, then this mini camp is for you! Well make super cool paint sets by measuring and mixing natural ingredients, create Lego chalk, learn about how the human eye perceives the visible light spectrum and more!
