WEDNESDAY Night - Codes and Ciphers - Audelia Road Branch Library
Since humans began communicating, there has always been an urge to keep certain information underground: intended for certain eyes only and unreadable to all others. In this course, youll study, crack (decipher) and create (encipher) messages in a variety of cipher systems and historical contexts. Although youll time-hop throughout history and make stops with Julius Caesar, Ben Franklin and Abe Lincoln, among many others, youll end with an exploration of how cryptography--the study of codes and ciphers--has kept up with, and even created, the modern digital age. Felted Bags and Purses - Artists Exchange
This 4 week workshop will focus on making bags and purses using a resist method of wet felting. For many, felt is a crafting material sold in squares made out of some mish-mosh of synthetic fibers. Felting is actually extremely natural and is one of the most ancient art forms in mankinds history. It is still a widely used method which can create anything from clothing to toys and even houses. In this class, students will learn the basic process of wet felting which creates wool fabric by layering raw wool fibers, adding warm soapy water and a little elbow grease. This is an inter-generational class. The felting process is simple but can be very versatile which makes it a great opportunity for parents and children to work together side by side. Four Week Camp Demigod - CAMP DEMIGOD INSTITUTE
Campers (ages 12-16) experience our unique program centered on innovation, mentorship, leadership and community-building. These Camps are a blend of world building through innovation, role playing and speculative fiction. These Camps are based on the principles that kids have an enormous reservoir of creativity and innovative ideas which they look forward to sharing with other like-minded individuals who hold common interests. Please register using a computer. Please do not use a tablet or smart phone when you register because the program will not work properly. The registration process takes about an hour and asks you to answer about 50 questions. The program does not allow you to save your work, so it is best to answer the questions in one sitting, electronically sign all the waivers and pay your deposit so you are fully registered. Many of the questions at the end of the application are best answered in consultation with your child: so that they express their interests, their first choices of cabin (demigod or fandom), etc. Tuition covers all meals, housing, instruction, guest lectures, ImagineSTEM blog, mentoring, supervision, materials, and recreation fees. This amount does not include transportation to and from the camp located just outside Leavenworth, WA.... 360-543-5641
