Home School Comes Alive with Shakespeare - Location: Center for The Creative Arts
For the Shakespeare buff or novice this is a fun yet educational program as we make history come alive through performance of a Shakespeare classic. This year we are adding a new dimension in that we will take one of his classic tragedy plays and add a humorous twist. While the play will keep with the essence of the original storyline and characters, students will find this play highly entertaining to perform. This truly unique course is especially designed for the home-¬schooled that incorporates history, literature, and performance. History comes alive as students create and act out their interpretation of imaginary and real characters during Shakespeares time. Students will also learn performance skills as they practice techniques for stage acting along with the wonderful experience of performing an adaptation of one of Shakespeares classic plays. Plays under consideration are Hamlet and Romeo & Juliet with a twist. A fully staged performance will be presented for family and friends at the conclusion of this course. Tennis Camp Session 1 - Whetstone Community Center
Novice players will gain a better understanding of the game while learning basic skills. Intermediate and advanced players will enhance their skills and develop on-court strategies for match play. All skill levels will end the week with fun Challenger Tournaments. No flexible drop off or pick up. Camper will need to bring own lunch. Kayak Fishing Camp - Week 5 - The Greenwell Foundation
Kayak Fishing Camp is for children ages 8 – 12 (by first day of camp session). This camp combines two of the favorite activities at camp – kayaking and fishing! The week begins with a lesson on the water learning kayaking skills with a certified instructor. The campers will then have two opportunities during the week to be on the water, combining these two skills – and hopefully catch some fish! With help from a member of the Maryland Saltwater Sport fishing Association (MSSA), campers will have on-land instruction learning how to tie lures, cast a line and what fish can be found in the Chesapeake Bay watershed. Friday, the campers get to choose if they want to fish or go crabbing from the boat launch or fish from a kayak. In addition to all the fishing and kayaking, campers will also have the opportunity to do archery, field games, crafts and get wet with water games. In this class designed exclusively for young developing minds, students get to follow in his footsteps by engaging in a variety of stimulating activities that cut across a wide range of disciplines. Tool use, building and engineering, chemistry and biology, art and design, spontaneous improvisation, and healthy dose of brain and body play are all mixed together to form this experience. Each activity will last anywhere from 30 to 60 minutes as students move from one subject to the next while making new discoveries about the diverse world around them.
