Summer Recreation Camp - (Week 1) Week 1: Aloha Summer Welcome summer with some island fun! A fun filled week including activities such as limbo, sand art, tie-dye and more. Each day is designed a little different to offer campers with daily choices, physical exercise, and craft activities to ignite creativity, social and group development, nature and each week includes three special activities/events. Thursday the campers will take a trip to a New Hampshire State Park and Friday has its own theme and is definitely going to be two days campers do not want to miss!Please have your child bring sunscreen, water bottles (at least 32 ozs.), 2 snacks and a lunch. We will all spend the night in the dorms to bring back memories of when we were campers/staff at FM Youth! This event is for 7th grade and above. Watkins Mill Nature Center - EcoAdventures
Wednesday, July 20th 9-4pm, $80 (ages 6-11) *limited to 13 due to van space Watkins Mill Nature Camp: We have an exciting day lined up for campers at the Watkins Regional Park in Upper Marlboro. Campers will visit the Watkins Nature Center for an hour interpretive program on birds of prey. Live animals on display include insects, amphibians, reptiles and birds of prey. The nature center also features indoor and outdoor ponds, a songbird feeding area, a butterfly/hummingbird garden, composting area, an outdoor nest box exhibit, and a squirrel gym that showcases the parks squirrel population. Campers will pack a picnic lunch and have time play on the storybook themed playground. After lunch, we will visit the Old Maryland Farm, an agricultural educational farm open to the public. Its agricultural exhibits, livestock, and display gardens provide a farming experience to visitors. Girls are incredible with coming up with ideas. This week, they are taught how to take their ideas to the next level. What are operations and what does Math have to do with an idea? They will definitely be able to answer those questions. Girls will use their ideas to solve problems and their skills to resolve challenges. No business deal would be complete without a golfing experience. Golf lessons with a PRO & clubs are a part of the week. Due to the expense of this week, there wont be a make up day for Monday,the 4th of July. Girls will be divided into 2 groups: 7-9 & 10-13. Saturday Theater - The Secret Case of Sherlock Holmes - Location: Center for The Creative Arts
A fully staged production with many levels of depth and humor in this clever mystery. Upstart detectives Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson are on their first case. Their client, H.G. Wells has hired them to find a manuscript by Arthur Conan Doyle. Hiding from their angry landlord, Holmes and Watson duck into Wells time machine, and soon find themselves in the 21st century. They end up at the Freudly Institute where they meet inmates who believe they are George Washington, Marilyn Monroe, Tarzan, Emily Dickinson, Lizzie Borden, Count Dracula, and Queen Victoria. Holmes is thought to be just another patient and Watson is his doctor just playing along. When a murder happens on the grounds, Holmes sets out to uncover the clues, while trying to prove he is the real Sherlock Holmes. Week 5 AM - Fishing - NESS
Summer is the best time of year for fishing, but you need the knowledge of fish habits to help narrow down the best fishing areas by boat and from shore. Open to both experienced and new anglers. Learn the basics of a variety of styles of fishing including rod and reel trolling, bottom fishing, fly fishing, clamming and lobster fishing. Students will also learn about tying knots, baiting hooks, cleaning gear, and practicing fishing safety. Become more aware of local fisheries and fishing impacts. We practice catch and release only.
