2016 Speed of Play : Leadership through Fitness CRIC - Coon Rapids Ice Center
(2016 SOP SCHEDULE BELOW) AKASPORTs Speed of Play: Leadership through Fitness Program, is led by AKA Director, Chris Schulz and the AKA professional training Staff. Participants enrolled in the AKA Speed of Play (SOP program), in partnership with the AKA All Sports Camp (ages 6-12), will offer adolescents an opportunity to be active, train and play in an All Sports setting geared to teach them leadership qualities with personal mentorship opportunities. The base of the Speed of Play program is from 9:00am-4:00pm and the doors are open for all Speed of Play participants from 7:00am-6:00pm, the same hours of the AKA All Sports Camp so you can take advantage of supervised activity time the entire day. Woodworking - PM - Woodworking
Learn a new skill and develop a new hobby this summer! Each camper will have the opportunity to work with a variety of tools and materials and every boy will be provided personal guidance while working on two to three individual projects during this special one-week tutorial session. A variety of wood project ideas and wood species will be offered. Possible projects may include constructing a bookshelf, birdhouse, wooden clock, jigsaw puzzle and carving a bowl or candleholder on a wood lathe. Woodworking experience is not required, only a desire to learn new skills. This specialty camp came into being at the request of campers and parents and has limited enrollment available for instructional purposes. We have envisioned this workshop to have the following goals: 1. To provide a hands-on course that initiates the learning of a new skill during the summer and the development of a lifelong hobby. 2. To learn basic carpentry skills and the proper use of a variety of tools. 3. To encourage pride in ones work and craftsmanship through projects that a boy wants to take home. Lets get this party started! During this week, you will be learning party dances. You will learn the Electric Slide (with advanced versions), the Cha Cha Slide, Cotton Eyed Joe, the Cupid Shuffle and so much more. Your performance will be the highlight at the end of the week. Period 4 - Keeping a Writers Notebook - NBJH Room 329
Each student will be given a Writers Notebook. This is a safe place for students to keep ideas and thoughts like real authors do. We will explore different genres and mentor text. The students will explore ideas, develop volume, revise, edit and publish final pieces of their writing. This will be accomplished through a Writers Workshop format. High Desert Museum - High Desert Museum
Our popular day camps return with exciting experiential themes. Campers can learn firsthand what its like to be an animal keeper and care for our rescued wild animals, discover frontier life skills, experiment with earth science and create art and photography inspired by High Desert nature and culture. Our childhood education experts have designed these week-long day camps to inspire ages 5 through 10 with unique, enriching hands-on experiences. Our campers have so much fun, they dont realize how much they are learning! Parents rave about the quality and value of our camps. Every day, children in each camp meet the Museums live animals, such as owls, porcupines and reptiles, and learn about them from our biologists and educational staff.
