This workshop would be for all 6th-12th graders interested in learning more about songwriting. No previous musical experience is required. Students would write their own original music, and gain skills on the keyboard that allow them to become better musicians and even self-accompany! This workshop is perfect for poets who wish they knew more about how to put their words to music, or experienced musicians who are stuck when it comes to writing lyrics. Whether youve never touched clay before, thrown just one time, or have experience throwing, this is the class for all teens 14-18! Throughout this course students will learn the skills behind wheel-throwing, glaze application, and a basic understanding of Cone 10 materials and firing, as well as design principles for functional pottery, fundamentals of form, and aesthetic design techniques. Every class will have demonstrations, hands-on projects, and one-on-one guidance on the wheel-throwing process. Students are strongly encouraged to be self-directed and to bring project ideas and learning goals to work on throughout the eight-week course. She continues to study at the Western Colorado Center for the Arts and is a member of the Grand Junction Clay Arts Guild. This fun-filled class includes music basics, singing, and playing the recorder. From there, students may be able to branch out into playing another instrument, or learn to sing harmony in a choir. THE SCIENCE OF GARDENS Gardening, kids dig it. Each day of class will have a hands-on science and gardening theme. On the first day of class, we will learn about the basic needs of plants and students will plant seeds.
