Youth in Emergency Preparedness Camp - Weslaco, TX
This summer from June 19, 2016 to June 23, 2016, the Rio Grande Valley Medical Reserve Corps and the Weslaco Fire Department are hosting a Youth Preparedness Camp. The camp is for Rio Grande Valley teenagers between the ages of 14-18. There are three man components of the Youth Preparedness Camp. Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Training – All camp participants (including the adult sponsor) receive the full basic CERT course complete with certification. The basic CERT program is delivered as one component of camp in an effort to educate youth about disaster preparedness and provide them the skills they need to support local first responders in an emergency situation, if needed. This training includes lessons on fire safety, basic first aid, search and rescue, incident command system (ICS), and disaster psychology, among others. In addition to classroom-based lessons, youth are given ample opportunity to practice their skills through hands-on activities, tabletop discussions, and exercises. The CERT training culminates in a large full-scale exercise in which youth allocate resources, attend to live role playing victims, and interact with real first responders. When the water gets low the Black is the place to be. Great playboating at Hole Brothers, and a great river running all weekend. Boaters of all skill levels are welcome. Friday: Evening: Sunset surf session at Hole Brothers. Drinks and food at Maggie's on the River. Saturday: Morning surf session followed by a river run Freestyle clinics will be available. Kids After Schoo Core Cooking Camp, Ages 5-8 (Bellevue) - Bellevue, WA
This is a wonderful program that will lay the foundation for healthy eating by educating and empowering students (ages 5-8) about basic kitchen safety, creating a healthy balanced plate, how to subsititue ingredients to make meals healthier and so much more! Classes are sold in a session of four, are held on Wednesdays frm January 4th-25th and are two hours long. The first 30 minutes of each class is dedicated to nutrition education including games and activities. The remaining time is dedicated to cooking, eating, and cleanup. Our Core Cooking Program covers topics such as: Kitchen Safety, Cross-Contamination, Healthy Snacks, Fueling Your Body, Healthy Breakfasts, MyPlate Nutrition, Lunch N Munch, Healthy Cooking Substitutions of Kids’ Favorite Foods Activity sheets, recipes, helpful tips, and individual workstations for hands-on activity are included in the course. This two week, high-energy camp is for children who love drama and the arts and who are looking to build their creativity, confidence, self-esteem and leadership skills through the performing arts.
