FCYD Camp is proof positive that being diagnosed with diabetes means you have to live a sheltered life. We tried to tell that to our daughter all the time but she never really embraced the idea until she found herself surrounded by kids in her same situation. Week VI Chemistry - Lower Elementary - Franciscan Montessori Earth School
Solids, Liquids, Gases, Oh My! Have you ever wondered how to make a liquid grow spikes? Or why your cookie recipe needs baking soda? Or how to make liquid water that is colder than ice? This is the camp to get those answers all while having fun. Students will experiment with safe, hands on projects and games exploring the tiniest bits of matter. Each day we will look at a different topic of chemistry and have several activities and experiments related to that topic. Some topics may include food chemistry. Tuesday - Make Real Stuff! 3D Modeling - HoLa Lower School
Make real stuff - Think it and build it! TinkerCAD is an easy-to-learn cloud-based technology that lets you create 3D models to later 3D print or export to Minecraft. Students have fun while learning spatial thinking. The instructor Nicola Hoelz is a professional graphic artist and has studied 3D modeling and animation. The school will provide the laptops and internet access. At signup, please provide one parents email address for an account at Autodesk 123D. During the first one or two club meetings we will follow the online lessons, learning to navigate and create models. Raspberry Pi is much more than a low cost, credit-card sized computer, It has the ability to interact with the outside world via GPIO pins, and is being used in a wide array of digital projects, from weather stations to all the way to IoT connected devices. In this camp, students will be introduced to the exciting world of Raspberry Pi. They will learn different elements of Raspberry Pi and how to program them. Students will explore how Raspberry Pi is used for Automation and Robotics using different sensors. Students will also learn about the Drones in this camp and how to program a drone. 925-659-8000
