The Coding Champions will strive to understand the fundamentals of coding (such as sequences, conditionals, loops, etc.) so that we can solve challenging puzzles, create animated plays, and maybe even invent a game or app. Every potential coder sits somewhere on his/her path to coding glory. Camp Shaw-Waw-Nas-See's annual fundraiser brings together the hearts of many to raise funds for a great cause. Event Details: Our venue has stayed the same, but has a new name! Tuscany Falls Banquets, formerly known as DiNolfo's Banquets, will play host to this wonderful evening. Trout start to bite as nighttime weather cools, salmon season opens in the rivers, and crabs are still legal to catch and are growing to size. Whether you’re an experienced angler or new to fishing, come join us for an exciting week of fishing at the very best spots in Western Washington! Learn the basics of rod/reel and fly fishing with our seasoned instructors and try your luck at various sites such as the Puyallup River watershed, North Cascades mountain lakes, and the Salish Sea. Target fish include trout, salmon, steelhead, bass, surf perch, flounder, sole, dogfish shark, dungeness crab, and many more. In the heat of the day when the fishing slows we’ll be learning what it means to be an honorable harvester. Students learn to see the world through a different lens while acquiring language skills and the confidence to use them. Young learners are especially primed for language learning - research shows that students are 70% more likely to gain fluency when they begin in elementary school. We are excited to offer Spanish at Thurgood Marshall this fall with our engaging, research-driven curriculum, taught completely in language. Students will learn about project design, object-oriented programming, console applications, graphics applications and many elements of the Java language. Students will build on what they learn each day. This includes learning how to program frames, colors and programming moving objects. The week begins with simple programming until it builds by the end where students will be able to create the game of pong in Java. No programming experience is necessary but doing common tasks on a computer is useful. Who knows, maybe you have the next Bill Gates or Steve Jobs living in your house and you never knew it!
