The Flagler College Cheerleading Team is hosting their fifth camp for area elementary school children (grades K-5) interested in learning more about cheerleading and dance. When and where is the camp? Saturday, April 2nd, 2016; 8:00am - 5:00pm* Flagler College Gymnasium 12 Granada St. St. Augustine, Florida 32084 *Campers will put on a performance of their skills from 4:00 – 5:00pm. Please note this is not an overnight camp. How much is the camp? Pre-registration: $75 (registration via ACTIVE and payment via ACTIVE or check sent in to: Flagler College, Attn: Cheerleading, P.O. Box 1027 St. Augustine, FL 32085 by April 1st) Day-of registration: $100 Full payment is due for pre-registered and day-of registered campers on April 2nd, 2016 Who should attend the camp? Girls and boys, ages 5-12 years old (grades K - 5). What will campers learn? This class is specially designed with teens who enjoy fashion. We will explore the many stages of everyday lives through fashion illustrations, beginning with the basic fashion figures (croquis) and color, using multiple mediums, including prints, fabric and textiles, students will imagine how they would dress for current and future life events, and also gain an understanding of the fashion industry, as well as the impact of technology on fashion. Through class discussions, books, films, and documentaries, students will gain a greater understanding of the fashion world and illustration as a form of self expression. This adventure camp allows participants to gain a sense of accomplishment by attaining goals in a unique historical setting and diverse natural environment. Daily camp themes include (1) Explorers & Mapping, (2) Pioneer-Farmers & Agriculture, (3) Millers & Mechanics, (4) History Detectives, and (5) Artist-Naturalists & Ecology. Among other activities, Day 1 includes a hike around the park, orienteering exercises and a canoe float; Day 2 includes a planting activity and visits to a local organic farm and the State Farmers Market; Day 3 includes a mill tour and an inventors workshop with simple machines; Day 4 includes a group mystery to solve and a road trip to the NC Museum of History; and Day 5 includes wildlife studies and sketching, pond dipping with nets and cane pole fishing. This program is almost full.
