Mandell Cubs, a program for children ages 18 - 24 months, offers a gentle introduction to school. During the fall months, children explore the wonders of the classroom with their grown-up close by, in this non separation portion of the year. Then, in January, after the children are fully acclimated to school and have bonded with their teachers, Mandell Cubs becomes a separation program. Through use of art and playtime, music and movement, science and storytime, we build on a childs natural sense of curiosity to enrich their emotional, physical and intellectual development. If youve ever wanted to design a play jungle for hamsters, a four-story luxury dog house, or the coolest cat castle the world has ever seen, this class is for you! In this workshop, well use Design Thinking to research, invent, and prototype new solutions for happier pets. Come prepared to create, think about animals, and build a pet utopia! Instructor Bio: Rei Jackler is an Oakland arts educator, design teacher, writer, and maker nerd. She holds a Masters in Teaching from Stanford University, where she also trained in Design Thinking at the D.School. In Oakland, she is currently Makerspace Manager for the La Escuelita Elementary School Makerspace, and has also taught design with Chapter 510. Rei loves making of all kinds: knitting multi-colored scarves, writing fantastical short stories, and baking with a lot of chocolate. Enjoy a week of hiking and exploring the Cascades. We will teach you how or give your hiking skills a challenge. We will take day hikes in the foothills, mountains and along Puget Sound Hiking camps are for youth ages 8 to 16. The difficulties of the hiking routes will be chosen depending on the ability of the campers. All climbing equipment is provided. Bring with you: a backpack, lunch, snacks, water, rain gear, sunscreen, long pants, long sleeve shirt, good fitting tennis shoes, hat, sunglasses, shorts, t-shirt and a book. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- All climbing equipment is provided.
