Did you ever think, What makes people laugh? What makes you laugh? We will spend a week laughing at comedy throughout the ages and create our own! By watching comedy in many forms, such as cartoons, sit-coms, improv, standup, and movies, we will laugh and learn about the universal truth of comedy and how it has evolved over time and by culture. We will also read funny stories, jokes, and essays, and we will grow as writers by writing our own comedy sketches, stories, jokes, and short films. We will also practice improv. The week will conclude with a comedy performance of the work we will create. Be ready to laugh, think, and push yourself not just to be a funnier person but also to become a comedy expert. The Republican Women of Rock Island County are sponsoring a fun trivia night for the benifit of the Jacaranda Youth Camp, a basketball camp that will be taking place later this year in Nairobi, Kenya! LEGO® Challenge Camp 8/15 - 8/19 - Civic Center Park Shelter Building
This program integrates LEGO® with scientific and mathematical principles in a FUN and EXCITING way! Teaching is conducted using customized LEGO® kits with motors, gears and batteries. The programs utilize an Edutainment (Education + Entertainment) approach, transforming the learning process into a game while introducing children to theoretical and practical knowledge in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). Each participant will discover new subjects and will build/play with (2) different models each day. Teaching is conducted using customized LEGO kits with motors, gears and batteries. Girls entering Grade 5 in Fall 2016 - Huddart Park
Campers entering grade 5 are grouped in units with girls of their own age/grade and are supervised by trained staff members and program aides. Campers participate in a wide variety of activities including earning badges, hiking, outdoor cooking, learning outdoor skills, crafts, games, singing and more. Girls entering grade 5 in Fall 2016 will spend the night at camp with their unit on Wednesday, July 27., and will participate in Archery (additional waiver form required). This workshop will allow students to learn the complex, intensive, and rewarding process of creating a short animated film as a team. This is an amazing opportunity for teenage students to not only improve their concept of motion, but to learn technical and real-world skills.
