LATEST CAMPS NEWS: Camp - Junior Theater S2 M-F 9:30 am (Ages 7-12) - Beck Center for the Arts
This activity may not be registered for individually because it is part of a package.The Junior Theater Camp is designed for all students, whether or not they have prior performance experience. Campers work with theater professionals learning techniques in acting, singing, and dancing as they rehearse for their original show. This fun performance is a culmination of their work and features acting scenes and musical numbers. Actors present the show for family and friends on the last day of camp, August 12 at 11:30 am and 6:30 pm on the stage in Beck Centers Music & Dance Building Recital Hall. Information concerning performances and tickets is distributed the first day of camp. Students are required to participate in both performances. 3 weeks; Mon - Fri; 12:30 - 2:30 pm; Tuition: $270 (Does not include admission to performances) Tickets to the performances are $5 each. Performance seating is limited. There is a 30-minute informational orientation for parents and students on the first day of camp. Lunch-time supervision provided for students enrolling in both the Visual Arts and Junior Theater Camps. I was excited to find this camp for my 12 year old daughter. She is naturally a quiet child, but she loves horses. This camp helped her stretch outside her comfort zone as she socialized with other children who also shared her love of horses. She couldn’t stop telling us how she explored the prairie on horseback. Our service project will be this Saturday. We'll meet up at church first at 8:30 AM and go from there. The project will last until 12:00 PM. All are welcomed to participate, but remember, you must be there if you anticipate that you'll be requesting a need-based scholarship for Teen Camp 2015. Aquatics Camp - PreK-4 - Avenues New York
Over the course of 4 days, the PreK-Grade students will learn essential swimming skills through fun and games. Combining a games-led approach with excellence in coaching and instruction, each student will learn the core aquatic skills needed to be a competent swimmer. In addition to working on the four competitive strokes, swimmers will learn numerous other skills, which will give them the ability to participate in a range of aquatic sports including synchronized swimming and water polo. Swimmers will also practice water rescue drills and discuss water safety. Requirements: Must be in the PreK – Grade group. Swimmers will be grouped by age and ability. Teen Wheel-Throwing - Ashtonn Means - The Art Center
Whether youve never touched clay before, thrown just one time, or have experience throwing, this is the class for all teens 14-18! Throughout this course students will learn the skills behind wheel-throwing, glaze application, and a basic understanding of Cone 10 materials and firing, as well as design principles for functional pottery, fundamentals of form, and aesthetic design techniques. Every class will have demonstrations, hands-on projects, and one-on-one guidance on the wheel-throwing process. Students are strongly encouraged to be self-directed and to bring project ideas and learning goals to work on throughout the eight-week course. Demonstrations will be geared toward students learning goals. See you there! Ashtonn Means is a Grand Junction native and has been doing ceramics since age thirteen. She continues to study at the Western Colorado Center for the Arts and is a member of the Grand Junction Clay Arts Guild. A senior at Colorado Mesa University, Ashtonn will graduate in May 2016 with a BFA in Studio Art and a minor in Psychology. Performance art is a catalyst in her pottery for the decorative design elements—slip trailing, stamping, glaze color, form—applied to the pieces.
