Opti Green Fleet (Full Season PM) - NESS
Prerequisite: Opti LTS Step 3, Step 2 per instructor recomendation Students will be challenged to perfect their sailing techniques, learn to use hiking straps and tiller extensions, and expand their knowledge of wind, weather and upwind sailing. Students will be introduced to basic racing techniques and will be encouraged to participate in local Green Fleet regattas, which are designed for new racers. All students will be under the supervision of our instructors and coaches in class and at specific local regattas. Be on the look out for your ECSA regatta booklet which has all the regatta information in it that will be handed out during the first week of programs. Typically your child will participate in 6-8 regattas over the 8 week summer. Regatta fees are not included and typically range from $25-$35 per event. 860-535-9362

Mini Einsteins® is a creative introduction to STEM that takes preschoolers through a variety of STEM activities aimed at learning beginning concepts of science, technology and engineering, with a tie in to literature and math. Children become immersed in the topics as they are exposed to the vocabulary, lab equipment, scientific process and engineering design cycle in a fun and engaging environment. In this 8-week exploration (#2), we will investigate Ink, jump into Jets, cook up some Kitchen chemistry, look into Light, manipulate Motion, need our Noses, observe Oxygen, and play around with Pressure. Draw, paint and sculpt with clay in this popular camp week. Even if you took this last year, its new every summer! Explore skills in drawing, painting, and some hands-on clay! Well fill the week with a kaleidoscope of color and fun projects! Sample different art supplies and make a masterpiece with guided instruction. Each day has a different theme such as nature, animals, great artists, cultural projects, Art Pods (free-choice time for self-directed projects like mandalas, collage and printmaking), and a mini art show on Friday! Latin and Greek Cognates - Morgan Park Academy
It is estimated that 60% of the terminology college students will face come from words formed from ancient Greek and Latin affixes and root words. Knowing how to break down a word which has been formed from Greek or Latin can help a student not only build a working vocabulary, but also help a student construct a basic meaning for a new or unfamiliar word. Students who learn this skill see their vocabularies grow and their anxiety lessen. As students who enter college are faced with not only increased amounts of reading, but also increased difficulty in those readings, having the skill to navigate these readings, assignments, and exams makes academic success much more easily attainable. Our summer class will investigate and analyze Greek and Latin cognates so that students may increase their vocabulary and learn how to decode an unfamiliar word, providing a vital foundation for testing, reading, and writing confronted in upper school and university academic life. 773-881-6700
