Get Started on Summer Reading 6 - The Prairie School
Have fun reading a required summer reading book in a group setting. With the use of a variety of reading strategies, the course covers the reading of Maniac Magee. Students are asked to purchase the novel prior to the first class. All students should read the first two chapters of the book they are assigned before June 20th. Additional reading at home will be required. **Participants MUST be registered in a class to be able to participate in this production. Seussical Jr! Transporting audiences from the Jungle of Nool to the Circus McGurkus, the Cat in the Hat, our narrator, tells the story of Horton, an elephant who discovers a speck of dust containing tiny people called the Whos, including Jojo, a Who child who gets in trouble for thinking too many "thinks." Hortons challenge is twofold - not only must he protect the Whos from a world of naysayers and dangers, but he must also guard an abandoned egg thats been left in his care by the irresponsible Mayzie La Bird. Although Horton faces ridicule, danger, kidnapping, and a trial, the intrepid Gertrude McFuzz never loses faith in him. Ultimately, the powers of friendship, loyalty, family, and community are challenged and emerge triumphant! All who register will be cast. CAMP DETAILS Animals Week Love animals? Then this camp is for you! We will play lots of fun drama games in which students will act out and tame their favorite animals. Students will sing songs, act out animal themed poems and stories as well as create art projects. Its a jungle in there! Children spending the full day with us should bring a sack lunch for our lunch break at the park Dragons, Monsters and Creepy Creatures We will incorporate our theme of dragons, monsters and creepy creatures into many of our fun drama games.
