Calling all junior adventurers for another summer of discoveries! In this half-day camp, your sons will enjoy all that The Heights campus has to offer. With beautiful stands of native tree species, numerous bird boxes, and a room full of past discoveries, there will be no lack for exciting new areas of learning. Two days will be dedicated to the animal kingdom – mammals, insects, reptiles and more. Another will focus on seeds and plants. – we cant live without them! Two days will also be devoted to experiments and discovery, bringing their knowledge to life. In the course of daily adventures around campus, campers will climb the trees theyve heard about and capture the insects theyve drawn. With a take-home booklet filled with artistic learning exercises, your son will be drawing on his discoveries from this camp for years to come! Environmental Art Camp (VSA Tennessee partnership) - Gallatin, TN
Environmental Art Camp is a program created specifically for individuals with disabilities over the age of 13 who are interested in the environment and have a love of art. The camp will be under the direction of VSA Tennessee teaching artist, Dee Kimbrell. During the camp, the young people will learn about environmental issues and their effect on our national parks. Participants will create their own tunnel books that reflect ecosystems within the parks. They will also create a larger tunnel book specific to the Smoky Mountain National Park. This book will be given to the park as a 100th anniversary gift at Tremont in October. The book will remain on site as an educational tool. For the week of July 5th, there is no class on July 4th. When adding Before Care, After Care, or Lunches, you will select additional quantities to cover the full 3 weeks as needed. Theres something for every young theater artist this summer at SJC! Boys and girls entering 3rd through 8th grade will be divided by age to learn a broad range of performance skills, including acting, singing, and dance. Campers will continue to challenge their imaginations with classes in improvisation, playwriting, and production design. Our professional staff of New York theater artists and educators will lead the groups through creative exercises to build an ensemble where every camper gets the chance to shine! Both of our 3-week camp sessions culminate in a unique performance showcase open to family and friends. Its time to bake some sweet treats as we have fun learning about the science of baking and kitchen safety. Participants in this session will learn the science behind baking the perfect cookie as well as the proper way to measure and mix ingredients, kitchen safety, baking techniques, and how to overcome baking challenges as we make a different type of cookie each day (including at least one gluten free option).
