Ages 13-15 The Teen Art Camp is geared towards the mature aspiring artist with a desire to explore a variety of art media and techniques. Future Entrepreneurs - Orchard Hills School
Learn what it takes to run your own business! Explore entrepreneurship ideas with your peers, develop a mini-business plan, and pitch your ideas "Shark-Tank style" before a panel of professional entrepreneurship judges. Participants will develop their very own business ideas through a step-by-step curriculum that results in a real-world mini-business plan, and compete in a regional fast-pitch competition. Little Stars (July 25) - The Little Theatre of Alexandria
This camp is a special introduction to acting that gives each child a chance to shine! Whether your child loves to do "shows" in your living room, or you wish they felt more comfortable expressing themselves, in this camp every voice is heard. We use creative movement and fun acting games that boost confidence and help build the body-mind connection. With a camper to caring counselor ratio of 4:1, there is a lot of individual attention. Confidence grows as children share their ideas and impressions, working collaboratively on their skit. Each week there are improv games and fun activities that help with concentration and observation skills. During the week campers sing and tell some jokes onstage, build a shoe box set, and paint the scenery for the show. Each day campers practice and prepare for their skit on Friday. We laugh a lot! INSTRUCTOR ROBERTA MASTERS-CULLEN has been teaching childrens classes and camps at the Little Theatre for seven years. She is a member of the Screen Actors Guild specializing in radio and television voiceovers, and has been a television news anchor and reporter. Shakespeare in Performance - The Little Theatre of Alexandria
This class is designed for 5th-9th grade students. Why Shakespeare? Why not! The stories are compelling and exciting. The characters thrilling and interesting. In the play well be working on this winter, they are also very comical! A Midsummer Nights Dream may be 450 years old, but its as funny today as when it was first performed in 1605. Under the guidance of Heather Sanderson, participants will present an abridged version of the play for a main stage presentation at the Annual LTA Showcase (April 1st & 2nd). During the course of the session, youngsters will learn acting methods naturally through a variety of theatre games, improvisation exercises and practical performance. INSTRUCTOR HEATHER SANDERSON studied classical theatre at RADA in London and prior to moving to Alexandria acted extensively in the San Francisco Bay Area. As "Miss Heather", she is known locally for instilling a love of theatre - in particular Shakespeare - into the hearts of children. Her youth Shakespeare troupes have performed in D.C. and in the U.K. and her privately coached monologue students have performed at the Shakespeare Theatre, the Fords Theatre and numerous community and childrens theatres in the area. Welcome to Portledges first field hockey camp! The program will be run by two of the Locust Valley field hockey coaches, Karissa McGrory and Tammy Caramico. Your athlete will need a field hockey stick, mouthguard, shinguards, cleats, and goalie equipment (if you are a goalie!). Session 1 is for any girl looking to love the sport of field hockey. The session will focus on beginner skills such as stick work, shooting, positions, and offense vs. defense. Girls will learn the proper stick skills learned to become a future field hockey star. In addition to learning the proper sportsmanship skills needed to become a well rounded athlete. We recommend athletes joining us for the first session are new players ranging from grades 3-9. Session 2 is for any advanced athlete looking to get ready for preseason and the fall school season. It is recommended that girls are interested in playing on the JV and Varsity level. Athletes during this session will work on expanding their knowledge of the sport, increasing stick skills, and working on specific offense and defensive skills to push athletes to the next level!
