Through Camp Joyful Hearts, Family Camp, and the support network of kids in similar circumstances that gather there each summer, we hope to help kids with heart disease and their families address these challenges. The Heart Institute at Cincinnati Childrens Hospital Medical Center is dedicated to bettering the lives of heart patients and their families with compassion, commitment and the best possible medical care. Every year Cincinnati Childrens Heart Institute hosts a weekend Family Camp in May and a week summer camp in June called Camp Joyful Hearts for our patients at Camp Joy north of Cincinnati, OH. By popular demand, Stanford Sports Medicine will be offering an advanced Sports Medicine Summer Camp this year for students with background in sports medicine. Come learn first hand from some of the best clinicians in the world. Students will learn the integration of cutting edge approaches to injury prevention, rehabilitation, and athletic performance. Located in the heart of the Silicon Valley, see firsthand how advanced technologies positively impact injury recovery and training. Recommended for high school students interested in sports medicine or a career in athletic training. Students should have experience in a sports medicine program, have attended the basic camp, or have attended the 2015 camp. During this camp week, we will have daily practice in following a process which should result in several creative writings projects. Each of the students writing projects will be evaluated. A big part of a successful creative writing class is being able to both give and receive constructive criticism; therefore, participation will be encouraged. Phyllis Monroe is a lover of anything related to language arts: words, phrases, clauses, paragraphs, essays, and formal research. Having taught all age groups- elementary, middle, and high school- she knowa that each grade/student will have different writing abilities; however, all age groups should follow basic guidelines for good writing. Nothing compares to the joy of cruising through Portland on a bike in the summer. Cruisers get a whole week of expanding their city view by exploring their neighborhood and beyond. Each day campers decide which destinations and parks to explore as a group, developing a sense of teamwork and mutual support along the way. Trips focus on riding safely, crossing intersections, reading maps, and troubleshooting common mechanical problems. Cruisers experience the empowerment of discovering new places through their very own person-powered transportation. As riders challenge themselves each day, many are surprised by how far they can go on two wheels.
