The summer will be gone before we know it, but we are still galloping full speed ahead which is why Tomten Farm and Sanctuary will be offering a special mentoring program to animal loving kids ages 11-16. This unique program is designed for kids with the desire to learn more about the day-to-day operations of an animal sanctuary and get hands on experience with our rescues. Taught by our long term volunteer and intern, UNH Equine Science major, Aileen W., it’s sure to be chock of personal attention, education, hard work, and more animals than you can count. Join us at the farm 2-3 weekdays from July 10th to the 31st, 10:30-2:30 and help us go above and beyond to maintain happy, healthy animals 365 days a year. This exciting class teaches students how to build and program LEGO Mindstroms NXT Robots. Students will use their new skills to meet such challenges as maneuvering an obstacle course, pushing water bottles out of a ring and beating their opponents at the Sumo robots competition. Java, Flipped! An Online Programming Course - NuMinds [Online Course]
How Does it Work? Each Friday of the course (see dates below) a new module is sent to students with a self-paced lesson and weekly challenge. Then, on the following Monday, in a "live chat" from 6 - 7 pm, the teacher will answer questions, provide feedback on that weeks challenge, and guide students through the joys of Java programming. Each module will contain multiple labs comprised of problems and a longer app at the end. Each individual lab will introduce a new concept / programming construct. Thats a few hours of available content per week! This hands-on, lab-based approach to learning programming reflects how programmers really learn--by doing, and at their own pace. What Technology Do I Need? Just a computer! If yes, then bring your child to the coolest hot spot in town. The Lacey Park Day Camp is full of fun activities for children grades K thru 6th. This is an outdoor recreation camp. Campers will learn about the benefits of being physically active; as well as, having a healthy lifestyle in the outdoors.
