During the first hour of basketball camp, children will focus on the fundamental skills necessary to excel in the sport including dribbling, passing (chest passes, bounce passes, and overhead passes), shooting (jump shots and full shots), and man to man defense. Agility and hand eye coordination will also be emphasized. During the second hour, children will be able to eat a healthy snack and then participate in a series of cooperative games that will enhance their capabilities of being a good teammate and showing good sportsmanship. The third hour of basketball camp will focus on the basic rules such as traveling, double dribble, charging and blocking, as well as the duties of each position. Additionally modified games of basketball and cooperative games such as knock out, PIG, around the world and 21 will be played during the last hour. As the skills of each child advances, the third hour will consist of more realistic game like situations and a mini tournament based upon age group. Equipment will be provided. New This Year! Our kids have been going to the local Boys and Girls club for the past year but this was the first time they ventured out for summer camp. I'm so glad they did. This camp is open to children ages 7 to 12. Students will explore the key elements of both long and short form improvisation. The children will play numerous improv games which will serve to develop and enhance their public-speaking, social, and team-building skills. This camp will be conducted in a non-judgmental environment where the students will build confidence, make friends, and most importantly… have fun. Snacks will be provided on a daily basis and there will be a pizza-party for lunch on Friday. The camp concludes on Saturday with all students performing in a graduation show on the stage of the Push Comedy Theater. Each student will receive a Push Comedy Theater T-shirt and be eligible to perform in the 5th Annual Norfolk Comedy Festival in late September 2016. We will have 3 sessions throughout the summer. Session1: July 11th - 15th, 9:30am to noon Session 2: August 1st - 5th, 9:30 to noon Session 3: August 22nd - 26th, 9:30 to noon These are all beginner level sessions, no experience is necessary. Voice and singing Camps - Voice Camp - MacPhail Center for Music - Minneapolis
Whether youve never taken voice lessons before or you have a few years of experience, Voice Camp is right for you. Students will work in small groups to develop their technique - improving their breathing, range and confidence. Through solos, duets and large ensemble pieces, students will study a variety of styles and genres including jazz, pop, musical theater and classical singing while continuing to expand their music reading skills. Each student will be expected to come to camp with a prepared, memorized vocal solo of any genre. The camp will conclude with a final concert for family and friends. Week #3 - We welcome you to Week #3 of 3 weeks of fun, adventure, and learning. Our hope is that the Faith Camp experience will follow your child home and bless your family. Faith Camp is for children who have completed Kindergarten - 5th grade by June, 2016. Please Note: * Children who will have completed the 5th Grade by the time Faith Camp begins are known as Disciple Campers. These campers have a different experience than everyone else. Our DCs are exposed to Servant Leadership as they engage as helpers to our paid staff and participate in an off-site service opportunity and off-site field trip. There is an extra nominal fee for the field trip (movies, bowling, skating, etc.) * Because staff is hired and t-shirts and supplies are ordered according to our registration numbers, we are unable to give refunds within 30 days of your scheduled week of camp. The one hour instructional sessions combine fundamental skills instruction with organized team competition with the goal of providing an enjoyable and educational after school athletic event. Developing players benefit by improving their individual skills such as passing, dribbling, shooting, rebounding, and defending while, at the same time, learning how to work within the framework of a team. Boys and girls of all skill levels are encouraged to join. One of the many merits of After School Hoops® is that it provides school children with an organized after school event at which they can learn, socialize, and most of all, have fun. Parents and teachers often express concern that idle and unsupervised after school hours provide too many negative temptations for their children. Using athletics as the vehicle, After School Hoops® provides children with an opportunity to improve their overall physical fitness, develop sportsmanship and athletic integrity, and gain an understanding of the game of basketball. There will be swimming from 4:00-5:00pm in the Middle School pool. Activities will be geared for children 5-12 years of age. Bring a snack, swim suit and towel.
