Incoming 7th and 8th Graders will learn the basic usage and safety of some hand tools, power tools and machinery (routers, drill press, scroll saw, spindle sander, disc sander, palm sander, cordless drill, lathe). All activities will be demonstrated and supervised by Mr. Caris, the current Woodworking teacher at NBJH. Students will choose a project from a list based on their experience. The list will be sent home in the FIRST week of the course. Examples include a cutting board, wood bowl, routed sign, garden tray, gumball machine, and bag toss game. Kirsten Casey is a local California Poet in the Schools, who has been teaching creative writing to students in the area for over ten years. She earned her Masters in Creative Writing from San Francisco State, and you can find her work in the anthology Yuba Flows, and her own book of poetry, Ex Vivo: Out of the Living Body. As a teen, Kirsten kept a daily journal, wrote poetry and a play, and enjoyed quoting song lyrics. The camp will explore composition, color mixing, creating texture and patterns, and will review the masters of still life painting and their styles including Impressionism, Expressionism, and Cubism. This first-class soccer camp focuses on enhancing individual skills, building team tactics and teaching intricacies of the game.
