Young Explorers Summer BLAST! - 3 weeks (1st Grade) - Oakwood
For children entering 1st grade: YOUNG EXPLORERS SUMMER BLAST! at Oakwood is an afternoon program designed specifically to engage young children (ages PreK –1st grade) in activities that will unlock their imagination. When Young Explorers pass through the class- room door, they will instantly be launched into new and exciting worlds. One day the children may discover that they are knights who have been trusted to protect the castle from re-breathing dragons, and the next they may find that they have been transformed into a pit crew on the side of a great auto speedway. Children may find themselves on the infamous Jolly Roger, swabbing the deck and walking the plank, or they may discover that they are astronauts flying past the Milky Way. The possibilities are endless at Young Explorers Summer BLAST!! Young Explorers Summer BLAST! is run by creative and enthusiastic adult teachers who are assisted by junior counselors. Throughout the entire week these leaders will provide a safe environment for the children to make new friends, test their skills, and explore the realms of possibility and imagination. MONDAY Night - Make a World: Sketching the Genius of Ed Emberly - Prairie Creek Elementary School
Abandon all ye puny stick figures! For these campers will learn to draw virtually EVERYTHING in their imagination by connecting lines, curves and shapes in logical patterns of construction. We will take our inspiration from the dynamic and colorful world of the accomplished American artist, Edward R. Emberley. But wait, there is so much more than just drawing! This project-based learning course is designed to vigorously enrich each childs natural tendency to illustrate and create. Students will make an unlimited supply of exciting drawing ideas in a personal journal as they develop a colorful story-mural or a graphic novelette. Art for Home Schooled Students - Location: Center for The Creative Arts
New students welcomed! Art classes for home-school students continues with instruction intended to guide new art students while challenging returning students to build on their skills. Students will split the time between explorations in Realistic Drawing and Painting and 3/D Art and Pottery. The group will be divided by age dependent on the number of students. Bling My Room - Lower School
Does your childs room need a makeover? This camp allows children to create beautiful pieces that add glam to their room! Each piece becomes a one-of-a-kind creation as campers get to combine many different artistic mediums. They learn canvas painting by completing a monogrammed painted canvas ready to hang. They learn the art of mosaics by creating their own message board. They learn pottery painting and glazing techniques by creating their very own tissue box cover.
