Kid-friendly favorites such as pigs in a blanket, meatballs, cheese straws, and homemade ranch dip for veggies. Parents are welcome to stay or drop off. Learning areas: history, social studies, science, math, kitchen safety. Limit: 10 students Suggested ages: 6+ (younger are welcome with adult helper present) Warning: not an allergy-free event! Nuts will be present as well as wheat. Cost: $15 per child, per class.

This session will allow kids to convert their favorite stories into keepsake crafts using the process of upcycling. This experience will teach the importance of repurposing through creativity while encouraging conversations about the value and importance of literature in our lives. Participants will create several items from old books chosen for this purpose. While creating these items, we will discuss their favorite stories, the most fascinating characters, and why books and upcycling are important. *Participants will need to bring 3 hardback books of their choice; books that are in disrepair or those which would otherwise be recycled are recommended. Favorite childrens books are especially useful. Ms. Suzanne Russell earned her M.S. in Library Science from Indiana University. She is the subject area librarian for Brebeufs Religious Studies and Science departments. She is a former Girl Scout leader; enjoys books, cooking, baking; and loves all things outdoors.
