With summer around the corner, many parents find themselves struggling to find fun, educational activities to schedule for their children. Working parents scramble to find childcare providers who offer a safe environment while still delivering their kids some real summer fun. Smoky Mountain Sk8way & FUN ZONE has once again partnered with area teachers and specialists to offer a fun, affordable, healthy and safe summer day camp experience for kids who've finished kindergarten through sixth grade. Skate, Learn, Play is the theme. This year the summer camp has gone the extra mile to become an officially licensed camp by the State of North Carolina which allows them to accept subsidized payments from Southwestern Child Development. The Sk8way has also added a 5,000 sq ft outdoor park for the kids to play in, new games and activities and even better, most will agree, they will have nutritious breakfast and lunches provided by the Haywood County School System. Aspen Trails has a very special show for you and your whole Family on Friday August the 12th with Pato Banton & The Now Generation Band at the beautiful NEW outdoor amphitheater at Aspen Trails located at the base of the Grand Mesa a couple miles outside of Cedarede, Colorado. Come up the hill and chill with every month this summer for GREAT music, food and camping. Part 3 off the Annual Mesa Summer Music Series kicks off July 12th from 5:00 to 10:00 with campfire jam session for all camping pass holders. Sammy Slug Summer Camp, Session #8b, Half Day - Youth Programs
Sammy Slug Summer Camp is offered by the Office of Physical Education, Recreation & Sports (OPERS) for boys and girls entering 1st through 6th grades. Based at the East Field House, this camp is offered in one-week sessions June to August. There are half day and full day options, and pre-camp and post camp care is available. Throughout the week the 5 camp tenants which are Responsibility, Respect, Leadership, Sportsmanship, and Team Building are reinforced and integrated into the curriculum. Camp activities include a variety of sports such as basketball, tennis, frisbee, and soccer; outdoor recreation such as hiking and swimming; and other arts, crafts and outings to keep the campers engaged, active and creative. With a camper to staff ratio of 10:1, the camp focuses on creating a safe environment with a program designed, implemented, and staffed by experienced recreation professionals and UCSC students. All staff are screened through a criminal background check, certified in First Aid/CPR and trained in safe practices. GRADES 1st - 5th LOCATION East Field House

**Participants MUST be registered in a class to be able to participate in this production. Seussical Jr! Transporting audiences from the Jungle of Nool to the Circus McGurkus, the Cat in the Hat, our narrator, tells the story of Horton, an elephant who discovers a speck of dust containing tiny people called the Whos, including Jojo, a Who child who gets in trouble for thinking too many "thinks." Hortons challenge is twofold - not only must he protect the Whos from a world of naysayers and dangers, but he must also guard an abandoned egg thats been left in his care by the irresponsible Mayzie La Bird. Although Horton faces ridicule, danger, kidnapping, and a trial, the intrepid Gertrude McFuzz never loses faith in him. Ultimately, the powers of friendship, loyalty, family, and community are challenged and emerge triumphant! All who register will be cast. Auditions Saturday, February 13th , from 2 - 5 for part placement.
