In Drawing and Discovery, young artists ages 6-11 will explore fundamental concepts of line, texture, shading, and color through the fun, creative, and age-appropriate projects. Students will try their hand at figure drawing, portraits, volume and perspective, and experiment with professional art materials. Students will work independently or as a group according to their age, level of experience, personal interest and individual artistic style. NASIMCO is pleased to announce the 2016 Youth Leadership Retreat with the theme of “Thinking Outside the Box: Making Your Voice Count!” This year the retreat will be held in sunny Orlando, Florida. It is an initiative led by youth with the vision of creating a forum for dialogue to enhance the ability of participants to think outside the box, engage in self-reflection, become socially conscious and have the confidence to act upon it in their local and global communities. This year’s retreat is hosted by the Husseini Islamic Center of Florida, INC. at the Warren W. Willis United Methodist Camp in sunny Fruitland Park, Florida. The retreat will combine facilitated workshops, debates, dialogue and recreational activities in order to optimize learning opportunities for all participants. It will take place during the Labour Day weekend, from September 2nd to September 5th, 2016. The intended participants are all youth ages 18 to 25. Camp will meet from Noon-5:30pm on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday; and from 10:00-5:30pm on Thursday; and from 7:00-5:30pm on Friday. Activities will include: arts and crafts, passive games, educational games, group activity games, sports, strength and conditioning, rhythms, and free play. There will be swimming from 4:00-5:00pm in the Middle School pool. Activities will be geared for children 5-12 years of age. Bring a snack, swim suit and towel. Campers should report to the HS cafeteria and enter door #29 on days that camp starts at Noon. Campers will be escorted to the MS Gym after lunch by camp counselors.
