Youth Curator Camp - Martinsville, VA
Youth Curator Camp Virginia Museum of Natural History Saturday, December 19 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Youth Curator Camp is an opportunity for children ages 6 to 12 to learn about the museum while participating in fun, hands-on activities and programs. Parents and guardians – this is a great opportunity for your children to experience a day of scientific adventure and discovery while you finish up any last-minute holiday shopping! Campers will meet the museum’s scientists and learn about real museum collections. There will be demonstrations of the casting and molding program, with children having the opportunity to create, paint and take home their very own fossil cast! In addition to these unique activities, campers will enjoy pizza and a movie in the museum’s Education Center. This summer we are happy to partner with the Manchester Athletic Club for an afternoon of tennis and summer fun. Students will be transported from Brookwood to the MAC each afternoon where the camp will feature an on-court tennis experience rain or shine daily. Tennis campers will improve their strokes and playing skills! There will also be time for open swim and other summer adventure. (Note: Students will be picked up at the MAC at 4:00. TECH IT OUT- Robotics I-Stories or Interactive Stories is a hands-on minds on learning experience that enhances students reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills through project-based learning and STEM Literacy. STEM literacy relates to a students ability to understand and apply concepts from science, technology, engineering and mathematics in order to solve complex problems. Campers will use LEGO WeDo to constructing their own stories with over 20 main characters models featuring working motors and sensors to choose from; code their models; and explore a series of cross-curricular, theme-based activities that develop their literacy skills of reading, writing, designing, speaking and listening. Special Effects-Gayton Baptist - Gayton Baptist Church
This is the first camp ever offered by Club SciKidz! Newly revised and more exciting than ever, campers learn the science behind Hollywoods special effects. Activities will demonstrate concepts related to light, sound, perception, illusion, and model building. One of the great features of this camp is that all campers will create (and take home!) a movie using techniques in Claymation and Stop-Motion Animation. Lessons include plot development, story boarding, set building, filming, and sound effects. Campers will also learn various special effects make-up techniques working with the same materials used by professional make-up artists.
