LATEST CAMPS NEWS: Beginning Burlesque with Sasha Sullivan - Ah Haa School for the Arts
Burlesque is a celebration of femininity. Women of all ages come together for a fun-filled journey into this incredible art form, ultimately empowering their creative, sensual, feminine beings. Telluride Theatres own Sasha Sullivan and Melissa Harris, who have been teaching burlesque classes for four years, are excited take new students on an eight-week journey into the world of burlesque. They will start with the basics – the history, dance moves, striptease, creating a character, and owning your space. Students will develop their very own burlesque character and walk away with a full routine, a set of pasties, and a portrait. At the close of the class, some students will be chosen to perform at BURLESQUE, a live variety show on the Sheridan Opera House stage at the end of March, a benefit for Telluride Theatre. Grades 3-5 Is your camper looking for a chance to build their field hockey knowledge and skill set with sweeps, drives, full-field passing, corner plays, defensive and offensive positioning, and field awareness? Whether they are a beginner or field hockey aficionado, join us for a week filled with drills, scrimmages and games. Please bring water, lunch, shin-guards, a mouth-guard, and stick. Coaches: One on One Sports Training staff. Theyll peel back the layers and discover how their complex organs work: learn about disease, how our body fights back, the role of mucus; and digestion, from spit to….. well, you get the idea. Theyll uncover how the brain works through their own personal webcam, investigate the impact of food, exercise and sleep; and discover how bones and muscles are like cookies and pancakes. Campers will perform hands-on experiments as they learn about body temperature and fevers, take blood pressures, bandage wounds, and create herbal medicines. Campers will participate in a variety of camp activities such as swimming, canoeing, high ropes, rappelling, and zip line among other things. Inspired by Pfacs upcoming exhibit, Game On! Learn about art in sports throughout the ages! We will begin by making clay vases like ancient Greek Olympic urns, then we will dive into archery painting, and finish by designing and creating our very own gold medals! Campers should bring lunch, drinks and two snacks (due to allergies, please make sure all food is peanut free) PFACs camps are led by one teaching artist per 12-15 students with assistance from Camp Counselors.
