LATEST CAMPS NEWS: Robotics: Design & Performance / Game Design - Hazen High School
Explore the world of robotics using the new LEGO® Mindstorms EV3® line. Learn how to build and program robots by designing simpler versions of real world robots. Youll create a bot patterned after Starwood Hotels robot butler, which can be programmed to deliver objects to guests. Youll make an animatronic creature which senses people and says hello to them. Youll also make a line-following bot and one which moves along like an inchworm. Plus, well spend a morning working in teams to build and program robots to complete missions similar to those in First LEGO® League (FLL) competitions! Create your own scrolling adventure game using Stencyl®, one of the newest and best ways to create games for a computer or mobile device. You will select or design characters, give them properties and behaviors for movement and interactivity, use built-in physics, customize the backgrounds and levels, add sound and scoring, and so much more. When youre done, youll have your own unique game, ready to play at home (on Windows) or upload to Stencyls online game library for others to play. The camp is geared toward students who want to make a professional-looking 2D game without having to write code. We... 206-466-6882

Two Thumbs Up! - Ethical Culture
Watch great movies and learn about critiquing films. Develop a sense for recognizing the thematic (the directors goal of the film), dramatic (storytelling elements) and stylistic aspects (genre) of a movie. Besides having fun at the movies and eating popcorn each week with your friends, you can share your insights and newly found skills of thoughtfully critiquing a film. Well usually take two after school sessions to watch one movie. Each Monday well watch half of a film and follow with a brief discussion, which includes identifying key characteristics and sharing what we thought worked well or not. Learning how to critique a film makes movie watching that much more fun and exciting! Instructor: Renee Stork 212-712-6230
