We are excited to invite the whole Alpha Omega Campus Ministry and the Junior and Seniors from the teen ministry to a Back to School Devotional. Beginning at 5:30pm the Campus Ministries will host a campus fair for the Juniors and Seniors to get information about the campuses in which they are interested. At 6:00pm we will start our devotional. We will have a time of worship, hear testimonies, and listen to the word of God being preached. The fair will continue afterwards. Join us for an inspirational time together.

“Teen Sexism, Self-image and School Success” with Campbell Leaper, PhD
Adolescents today face the competing demands of doing well in school, being popular, developing close relationships with friends and romantic partners, and appearing sexually attractive to others. Each of these challenges is affected by stereotypes about what is considered desirable or undesirable for each gender. Sexism occurs when these stereotypes constrain the self-image and aspirations of girls and boys. What are the most powerful influences in teen sexism – family, peers, school, music, social media. How are these influences and the stereotypes they promote affecting teen relationships and school success? Do you worry about their effects on your children? Campbell Leaper, Professor and Department Chair of Psychology at UC Santa Cruz, and co-founder of the Gender Development Research Conference, is an expert on gender ideologies, self-concept, sexism, and gender bias in schools. He will talk about the ways that gender stereotypes affect girls’ and boys’ self-image, relationships, and school success. Most importantly, he will discuss what adults can do to mitigate sexism and the negative cultural influences in our kids’ lives. Is there a future make up artist or movie director living in your house? If so, dont miss out on this action! Artists learn the science behind Hollywoods special effects. Activities will demonstrate concepts related to light, sound, perception, illusion, and model building. Artists will also learn various special effect make-up techniques working with the same materials used by professional make-up artists to simulate cuts, bruises, artificial blood and old age. CAUTION: You may not recognize your child when you arrive to pick them up! 919-847-7625

This class teaches the basics of sketch writing. What makes the premise of your sketch funny? Learn heightening and writing efficiently in your scenes. Different types of sketches will be introduced as will rewriting sketches, and writing with others. There will be home-work assignments each week. Sports may include: volleyball, kickball, basketball, flag football, and pickle ball. Athletes should wear loose comfortable clothing and tennis shoes.
