Please come support the 5th grade students of the Laurel Highlands School District. All proceeds will go to defer the cost for LH Outdoor School for each student! Tickets are $8 and can be purchased through a fifth grade student, individual elementary schools, or by commenting on this event!

UH Campus Rec Kid's Triathlon - Houston, TX
Hey guys. We are in need of volunteers to help out at the Kid's Triathlon the university is hosting. This is a fun all day event on April 19th with several volunteer shifts to help fit your schedule! If you'd like to help make this a great experience for the young ones, please comment/post on this event telling us when you can volunteer. The shifts are: - 4:45am - 9am (this will entail mostly set up and concessions) - 9am – 1pm (concessions and help with trash pick-up during event) - 1pm – 4pm (concessions and help with trash pick-up during event) - 4pm – 7pm (concessions, tear down and help with trash pick-up during event) The more volunteers we get to help out with the event the better it helps support the club. SAT Prep May - Burk 8
The SAT Prep Class at Loyola Blakefield is an intensive four-evening class that covers the Math, English, and Writing sections of the SAT. The class runs the Monday though Thursday before each SAT test and covers two days of math and two days of English/Writing. Topics include coverage of basic SAT curriculum, test taking strategies, and the completion of SAT test questions. The class runs evenings from 7 – 9:30 pm. Cost is $175. Class size is limited to twenty- five students per session. The math portion of the SAT Prep Class is taught by Mr. Jose Albornoz. Mr. Albornoz has been a mathematics teacher at Loyola Blakefield for the past thirty years. He has taught all levels of mathematics from 7th grade pre-algebra through Advanced Placement Calculus. 2015 -2016 will be his 31st year at Blakefield and his 7th teaching the SAT Prep Class. The English portion of the SAT Prep Class is taught by Ms. Kelly Christ. With a BS in English and Secondary Education from Towson University and an MFA in Creative Nonfiction from Goucher College, Ms. Christ is entering her 16th year of teaching. Beginning Java Programming – Ages 12-15 - Art Explorers Studio
Campers will learn the basics of Java using the software Greenfoot. Java is a computer programming language that is class-based, and object-oriented. Greenfoot teaches object orientation. Create ‘actors which live in ‘worlds to build games, simulations, and other graphical programs. Greenfoot is visual and interactive and is a great way to learning about real coding. Greenfoot aims to motivate learners quickly by providing easy access to animated graphics, sound and interaction. Printmaking Studio with Ann Cheeks - Ah Haa School for the Arts
Explore some traditional printmaking techniques, from linocuts to monoprints. Students will learn how to create unique, handmade artwork for personal cards, gifts, posters or wall art. The workshop will introduce students to linocut techniques, the process of carving into soft printing blocks with linoleum cutters and printing with water-soluble inks. Monoprint techniques will also be taught for creating looser, more abstract images. All students should come away with no fewer than five images from printmaking techniques, and the skills to create more on their own with a few low-cost tools. Campers take their creations to the limit with the Architecture & Engineering camp. Kids discover mathematical principles necessary to build structures capable of withstanding the forces of nature. From dams that stop powerful flooding waters to bridges that span the widest of gaps, our budding architects and engineers learn how proper designs lead to strong, safe structures. Ed Lee - Story Structure for Sitcom Pilots and Specs - iO West
Television writer and iO West instructor Ed Lee will discuss how television episodes - including pilots - are structured, and how you can apply it to your writing so your television scripts can have the best possible impact on your audience. Ed Lee has written for several TV shows including Norm, "The Drew Carey Show, Class of 3000, and "Are You There, Chelsea?", and has worked in punch-up rooms for many sitcom pilots.
