During staff training, counselors and other staff members are trained in basic youth development, behavior management and common issues, group formation, diversity and cultural competency. Common issues like homesickness are also touched on, and counselors are reminded of the importance of encouraging youth to reach their full potential. The camp’s culture and mission as well as the schedule and related activities are also explained in full detail. Additionally, staff learn basic first aid and how to manage different emergencies.

Anyone hired by the organization goes through an extensive application and interview process as well as thorough background checks. Summer programs only want to hire the most experienced, skilled and enthusiastic individuals are hired.
